Compost, Italy to be represented by CIC at the EU

The Italian Consortium of Compost-makers (CIC) will have a referent to follow the works of the European Commission on Circular Economy.

Italy of compost and waste sorting is going to be represented by the Italian Consortium of Compost-makers (CIC) at the EU. As member of the ECN (European Compost Network), a European association of the main operators in the field of compost making, the CIC will have its own referent in Brussels to follow closely the work on circular economy promoted by the European Commission, and to participate in the discussions concerning relevant regulations together with other European countries.

“Brussels is discussing the Circular Economy Package, assessing and revising various regulation drafts, one of which concerns waste, a topic of great interest to us – says Massimo Centemero, leader of the Italian Consortium of Compost-makers – CIC is currently taking part in discussions and attending audits, seminars and sharing moments with all stakeholders. As representative of Italy, it encountered great curiosity and admiration: Italy is in effect the European leader in the field of waste sorting for what concerns the quality and quantity of sorted material.”

“By presenting our experience in Brussels – concludes Centemero – we are setting an example for many other countries for what concerns the organisation of waste collection and the transformation of organic waste into compost and biomethane.”
