The market value of electronic waste is bound to grow exponentially, reaching $34.32 billion by 2022. These are the estimates by the Transparency Market Research. This increase would imply an annual growth rate of more than 15%, with Europe keeping its position as market leader.

In 2014, Europe accounted for about 29% of the whole electronic waste recycling market. However, the Asia-Pacific area is expected to witness a very fast growth in the period considered by the report. “Countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia, and Singapore, offer several growth opportunities for the electronic scrap recycling market”, says the report.

In conclusion, the report adds that the so called “large white goods“, such as washers, dishwashers, ovens, stoves etc., “accounted for the largest volume share of around 50% of the overall electronic scrap generated, globally. However, the small home appliances segment is expected to grow at the fastest rate by 2022. Transparency Market Research estimates that the precious metals segment will expand at an annual growth rate of 11.2%, and that companies such as Boliden Group, Umicore and Mitsubishi Materials Usa Corporation will significantly increase their ability to treat electronic waste.

In fact, the report underlines that about 50 billion tons electronic waste is generated every year worldwide.
