The battery producer and the automotive company of Peugeot and Citroën working together towards the zero waste goal.
The French battery producer SNAM and the automotive giant PSA Peugeot Citroën launched a common program to make sure that end-of-life batteries of the group’s electric and hybrid vehicles are correctly recycled all over Europe.
The task of SNAM will be to collect and recycle the high-voltage industrial batteries (nickel-metal hydrate and lithium ions) provided by the network of authorized Peugeot-Citroën distributors and repairers in Europe.
SNAM is able to recycle up to 80% of the weight of these batteries, way above the minimum efficiency rate of 50% set by EU norms.
This alliance represents an important step towards the diffusion of circular economy principles in the automotive industry. The PSA Peugeot Citroën group alone sold 3 million vehicles in 2014.
