Since the 1st of October the Environmental Contribution CONAI changes from 21 to 13 EUR/ton, a saving of 6 million Euros for companies.
Six million Euros. This is how much companies can save thanks to the reduction of the Environmental Contribution Conai for steel packaging. This is what Anfima, association of metal packaging manufacturers and member of Confindustria, estimates.
“The reduction of the the Environmental Contribution Conai from 26 to 13 €/ton is a very positive signal for companies that use steel packaging, and ultimately for consumers (explains Giovanni Cappelli, general director of Anfima). Steel cans, tins and jars, as well as being the most secure and solid containers, can be endlessly recycled with great benefits for the environment.”
The Environmental Contribution Conai (CAC), established for each type of packaging material, represents the type of funding through which CONAI – the consortium in charge of the collection and recycling of packaging – distributes the major costs of collection, recycling and recovery of package waste amongst producers and users. As for steel, CAC passed from 26 to 21 euro/ton on the 1st of April 2015 and from the 1st of October it will be further reduced to 13 euro/ton.
“This is an important goal – adds Federico Fusari, general director of “Ricrea”, the National Consortium for the recovery and recycling of steel containers – 13 €/ton is the lowest figure since Ricrea has been established and, beyond being an important competitive factor for members, it represents the operating efficiency achieved by the Consortium. Further cost reduction for companies will ensure the recovery of municipal packaging waste throughout the country and the recognition of the ordained financing according to the new Anci-Conai Agreement”.
Steel containers are easy to separate and can be endlessly recycled without creating waste and keeping their qualities intact. In 2014 in Italy, 335,854 tons of steel packaging were sent to be recycled. The recovery rate, 74.3% of the consumption quantities, confirms our country is amongst the best in Europe.
