For the next three years the Consortium in charge of the disposal of plastic packaging will be led by the ex-head of Equipolymers.
Antonello Ciotti is the new president of Corepla, the consortium in charge of the collection, recycling and recovery of plastic packaging. Ciotti was previously the commercial director of Equipolymers and sole administrator of Equipolymers Srl. He will be the leader of Corepla for the next three years.
“The importance of the universe of plastic and packaging collection and recycling can hardly be ignored – said Ciotti – The numerous best practices employed by Italian industries in the selection of materials allow to save great amounts of recyclable materials from landfills: these can be transformed into high quality secondary raw materials which make the Italian industry sustainable and competitive on a global scale. And not only that. We are a complex system cooperating for a real industrial policy: we support the foundation and growth of new enterprises, new manufacturing processes and new applications. In short, new employment possibilities. I wish to have the chance to further develop Corepla’s work with the target of a more dynamic economy with an eye for environment and innovation”.
In an interview with Askanews, the newly elected president explained: “If we compare Italy with other European countries, the Italian practice of plastic packaging recycling yields even better results than Switzerland and is almost at the same level as the traditionally most recycling-aware countries, Germany and Scandinavian countries”.
Ciotti added: “Corepla will focus on specific initiatives in the sector of research and development: it is true that the technical skills belong in specific to plastic products producers, but it is essential for Corepla to step forward as a sort of catalyst of new processes, in order to allow the recycling of products that present particular difficulties. For what concerns the question if Italian enterprises are ready for this step, the official date to assign differentiated environmental contributions is January 1st 2018: we will be able to present the verification of state of the art in Italian enterprises only in the third term of 2017, thanks to a few tests started at months 4, 5 and 6. I’m sure that the in January of next year we’ll have positive results”.
