Let’s clean the world: 4 thousand schoolkids hit the streets for recycling

Legambiente and Ecodom gift electronic waste collecting kits to 77 Italian schools.

A kit to hunt for electronic waste (WEEE) will be given to almost 4 thousand pupils all across Italy from the 23rd to the 25th of September within the campaign “Puliamo il Mondo” (“Let’s Clean The World”): we are talking about the largest environmental volunteering campaign promoted by Legambiente with the support of Ecodom.

Thanks to the material provided, pupils from 77 schools all across the country will get out on the streets equipped with rubber gloves, brooms, caps and vests, to clean their neighbourhood and collect any kind of waste.

The goal of the initiative is to raise awareness among younger generations on the importance of waste sorting: not only paper, plastic and glass, but also Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment, which requires a special treatment.

Some schools also organized an intensive didactic program aimed to teach their pupils how to correctly dispose of broken or unused appliances and electronic devices: in three events, the children will learn what WEEE is and why it’s so important to sort waste.

“The collaboration with Legambiente and the support to “Puliamo il Mondo” have become an annual appointment that Ecodom is proud to keep up. We are aware of the importance of raising awareness on the need to preserve and protect the environment we live in, especially among the young generations – says Giorgio Arienti, Ecodom’s General Director – Every type of waste needs to be disposed of in an adequate way so as not to damage the ecosystem: in particular, WEEE can become a resource for the planet and an important source of raw materials (such as iron, copper, aluminium, plastic), provided that it is recycled in the right way. Recycling means not only saving energy, but also preserving the Earth’s resources, creating a more sustainable future for the new generations”.

“Over the last few years – adds Rossella Muroni, National President of Legambiente – we have observed an increasing attention and awareness of citizens towards environmental themes. Many have become eager to concretely participate in the preservation of their territory: an example is the enthusiastic participation we have been getting for “Puliamo il Mondo” in the last 24 years. This year’s edition is dedicated to integration and to the elimination of physical, cultural, social and mind barriers: we want our country to be more sustainable and more open to dialogue and active participation. The project will concern the outskirts of many Italian cities: together we can redesign more sustainable, innovative, welcoming and inclusive spaces. As always there are going to be many volunteers, many young people and also many foreign associations, who will join forces to clean outskirts and common green areas of all abandoned garbage. The idea we share is that a greater civic and environmental conscience is fundamental for the preservation of the environment, at least as much as the actions of public institutions. This idea matches the spirit of “Puliamo il Mondo”, which this year too will enjoy the precious collaboration of Ecodom to explain how to dispose of electronic waste in the right way”.
