RAEE Coupon, the app to recycle WEEE and save up

There is a new solution to simplify the 1 for 1 swap, that is the possibility to give back an old electronic device in the store where you are about to buy a new one: it’s an app that allows you to easily get rid of the old device and receive in return a discount coupon for the purchase of a new one, even for online purchases. The initiative was organized by 5 of the main Italian non-profit consortia : they created the WEEE Coupon Project (“Progetto RAEE Coupon”) to facilitate the recycling of end-of-life electric and electronic devices bought online. The acronym WEEE (RAEE in the project name) stands for Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment.

The decree, commonly known as “one for one”, allows to return an old electronic device, free of charge, at the moment of the purchase of a new equivalent product.

Thanks to this initiative, online consumers will have the chance to return small-sized WEEE for free at any of the Technical Assistance Centres (CAT) distributed all over the Italian territory. The closest Centre can be identified on the project’s website or through the app RAEE Coupon, available for Android and iOS. For this action, which is beneficial for the environment, consumers will be rewarded with a discount coupon that can be used directly in the chosen delivery centre.

RAEE Coupon will work as collector for the different operators of the recycling chain, ensuring considerable benefits for all. By joining the system with a contract, online sellers will have to pay only for the devices actually returned by consumers. To simplify the whole mechanism and guarantee a clear, controlled management, in full respect of the environment, the consortia organized a widespread network of collection points. Technical Assistance Centres are selected based on meritocratic parameters by some of the main Italian appliance manufacturers (De Longhi Group, Groupe SeB, Olimpia Splendid and Tenacta Group). Offering their structures as collection points for small-sized WEEE, the Centres will enjoy numerous benefits: a larger customer base, remuneration for every device collected, advertisement for their products, free collection of the end-of-life devices returned to them and of their own special waste, no administrative difficulties and total respect of the applicable environmental norms.
